Meet Luke Sortor: A Bull Rider Chasing His Dreams with Faith and Grit
At Road Runner Western, we celebrate individuals who embody the spirit of adventure, resilience, and determination. Our very first influencer, Luke Sortor, is a shining example of these qualities. As a professional bull rider, Luke's journey is one of grit, faith, and a relentless pursuit of his dreams.
Pushing the Limits in 2025
For the 2025 rodeo season, Luke has set his sights on the UPRA and CPRA rodeos, with the ultimate goal of making it to the finals. A highlight on his wishlist is competing in the Truckee Rodeo, a particularly meaningful event as it takes place in his hometown. “My goal is to continue pushing myself to the limit mentally, spiritually, and physically,” Luke shares.
Lessons from 2024
Reflecting on his 2024 season, Luke reveals the key to growth in any endeavor: consistency. “Bull riding is a tough sport—not just physically but mentally—because you will lose more times than you win,” he explains. According to Luke, success in bull riding is “90% mentality and 10% skill.” Persistence, toughness, and grit define the sport, and Luke’s unwavering dedication embodies these traits.
A Surprising Start to Rodeo
Luke’s journey into bull riding began in 2021 in an unexpected way. Growing up in Truckee, California, he had never owned a pair of cowboy boots. It wasn’t until watching the Truckee Rodeo that he felt inspired to try bull riding. Shortly after, he booked a school in Bakersfield, California, and fell in love with the sport.
Within months, Luke packed his bags and moved to Texas, immersing himself in the rodeo world for two years. During his time there, he finished in the top 10 of his circuit and grew mentally, physically, and spiritually. “Texas taught me how to be tough, and I grew in my relationship with God, glorifying Him in every opportunity possible,” Luke reflects.
Faith and Family Roots
Luke’s foundation is deeply rooted in his faith and family. Raised in a God-fearing household with his parents and two older brothers, he credits his confidence and strength to his relationship with Jesus. “Being a believer is a lot like bull riding—when you get knocked down, you need to get back up,” Luke says. His faith continues to guide him, providing him with courage and clarity in every aspect of his life.
Life Beyond the Arena
When he’s not riding bulls, Luke lives life to the fullest. He spends his time working out, training, reading his Bible, and seeking adventure. Whether he’s ranching or exploring new places, Luke embraces every opportunity to create meaningful experiences.
A Partnership with Purpose
Luke was drawn to Road Runner Western because of our shared values and adventurous spirit. “I love being part of a brand that supports people chasing the same adventures and memories,” he says.
Words of Wisdom
For aspiring bull riders or anyone chasing big dreams, Luke offers powerful advice:
- “Don’t give up when it’s hard. Do the work outside of the arena and be ready to face challenges.”
- “Make decisions based on what is true and right. You have to mean what you do—otherwise, nothing will come of it.”
- “Push fear aside, live life to the fullest, and be grateful for how far you’ve come and how far you’ll go.”
Luke leaves us with a verse that inspires him daily:
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” — Matthew 19:26
